Ahhh, the sun is shining brighter, the days are getting longer, and the snow is disappearing from the sidewalks. You know what that means… we can finally stop hibernating from the cold! After what seemed like an eternity of winter—with the added element of physical distancing—the end is near. But what now? Though the city will still continue to operate as safe as possible, events are definitely happening this Spring. So we’re here to give you the 411 on all the fun and safe things to do this season.

Imagine Van Gogh

A first of its kind in our city, the Edmonton Convention Centre will transform into a unique cultural project where you can discover a new way of connecting with the work on Vincent Van Gogh. And what’s more—the exhibit will also feature audio from Annabelle Mauger and Julien Baron to add an emotional depth to each image.

Stanley A. Milner Library

Though the new Edmonton library isn’t necessarily a new view, many haven’t yet visited it yet due to the COVID restrictions. Whether you’re a senior, a parent, a teenager or anyone in between, there’s something for you at this library. There’s even recording studios, a children’s area and gaming rooms!

Hawrelak Park Community League Plaza

If you’re out and about for a walk in central Edmonton, you’ll likely want to stop in at the familiar Hawrelak Park to check out the new Community League Plaza! Representing 161 Community Leagues in our beautiful city, this stunning addition to the park celebrates and recognizes the amazing contributions Community Leagues and their volunteers have made to the very fabric and quality of life in Edmonton.

Art Gallery of Alberta

If you’re looking for a family-friendly activity (or solo, that’s okay too!), the Art Gallery of Alberta is definitely the place to visit. The gallery is frequently updating its exhibits, so there’s always something new to see every few months. And the best part—anyone under the age of 18 gets free admission!

Hive Fit Co

We’ve been cooped up for far too long. Though necessary, many of us may feel like we need to get a good sweat in, now more than ever. Well lucky for you, because Hive—a well-loved YEG boutique fitness studio—has recently opened up their brand new location! Hive offers an array of 45-55 minute workout classes, including row, HIIT, yoga and spin. Believe us when we say that you’ll never get a better workout.

Alberta Legislature Grounds

And when in doubt, set up a blanket in the Alberta Legislature grounds, grab your favourite book or meet your favourite friend (at a safe distance), and enjoy the fresh air. Soon enough, the fountains will be spraying, the children will be playing and the beautiful flowers will be blooming all around the park!

We hope this short guide was able to spark some ideas on how to enjoy Spring this year. We’ve made it through the hardest part, and now we finally get a chance to enjoy all that Edmonton has to offer.
